Key Leadership Accomplishments

  • Formulated a strategy and executed action plans to transform the business from commodity based to a business focused on value-added products in order to return the company to profitability; the company turned around from a $42.7 million loss to a $8.8 million profit the next year, for a swing of $51.5 million
  • Developed a KPI reporting system designed for benchmarking against industry peers to drive performance and stay focused on the company's competitive advantage; operating performance improved from the bottom 25 percent of our peer group to the top 10 percent based on third party benchmarking
  • Restructured $425 million of corporate financing by re-aligning the financing structure to be more tax efficient, expanding the company's relationships with the financial community, taking advantage of lower interest rates, and changing the covenants to create more flexibility to grow the business, thereby establishing a better platform for financing future organic growth and M&A investments

Bio

Robert Zonneveld has more than 20 years of experience as a CFO with agriculture, food & beverage, protein and seafood organizations. By blending his strategic planning, operations and financial expertise, he has successfully led high performance teams faced with the challenges associated with growth and turnaround environments in international, public, family-owned and private equity companies. Robert has served as CFO for Icicle Seafoods, one of the largest seafood companies in North America; Christensen Farms, one of the largest pork producers in the USA; MGP Ingredients, a manufacturer of alcohol and naturally derived specialty ingredients used in food, beverages and household products; Gowan Company, an international manufacturer, registrant, marketer and distributor of crop protection products; and Alliance One International, a world-wide leading leaf tobacco merchant. The revenues for these companies are in the range of $300 million to $900 million. Robert is skilled at partnering operations and finance to bring an integrated, action-oriented focus to strategic and business development. By combining his strategic and tactical experiences, he has achieved success in many areas including 11 mergers and acquisitions and the corporate integration of these entities; joint ventures and creation of strategic business partnerships; multiple debt restructuring of up to $425 million; financing strategies, working capital management and covenant negotiations; redefining a company’s business model to drive increased EBITDA; and leading a finance team of six regional financial controllers located in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the CIS. Robert holds a BS in Accounting and Business Management from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and is a licensed CPA.
