Executives and Board members looking to serve on a contractor basis
Who is a good fit to become a NextLevel partner?
Our partners typically have been in leadership roles for 15-20 or more years, with a minimum of 10 years of C-level experience, whether as CEO, COO, CFO or CIO, with substantial experience either as a Board member or in working closely with Boards. Often they have significant additional leadership experience, whether within an operating company environment or in professional services firms, investment banks or other organizations.
Our partners’ leadership experience spans publicly-traded and privately-held businesses, including private-equity or venture capital portfolio companies. Although many will have Fortune 1,000 company backgrounds most of their experience typically has been in the middle market. Collectively, our partners have worked in a broad range of industries, both domestic and international. Our partners have substantial experience working with companies at key inflection points in their business cycles: during rapid growth, our partners have developed and led the execution of key strategic initiatives, built infrastructure allowing for scalability, enhanced the capital structure and developed management teams; have raised capital – both debt and equity – through public offerings and private placements including venture capital and private equity; have led mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, including post-transaction integration; have led the formation and management of joint ventures and other strategic relationships; have addressed enterprise risk issues; and have led corporate restructurings in distressed situations. They are seasoned and respected in the board room – able to articulate critical points in a well-reasoned manner that enables Board effectiveness.
They are able to lead the execution of strategy and, whenever appropriate, be hands-on. They know how to prepare a company for sale, manage the due diligence process and deal effectively with transitional integration and carve out issues; many have experience preparing a company for an IPO, leading the road show and managing investor and analyst relations. Many will have worked with portfolio companies of private equity firms; many have managed companies during a turnaround, cutting costs and managing resources. Many will have led operational and/or infrastructure improvements, creating efficiencies and greater profitability as well as enhanced competitive positioning and reduced risk. Those with extensive CFO backgrounds know how to repair a broken controllership function, fix financial reporting, implement a quick close process, oversee SEC reporting and manage an audit. They know how to manage and improve cash flow, manage debt covenants and banker relationships, and improve the capital structure of their client. They have built finance departments, managing the accounting, treasury, FP&A, strategic planning and various administrative functions.
Individuals who are positioned to prosper with NextLevel are those who have chosen interim, project and advisory executive work as a career, and are interested in helping us continually enhance the best-practice capabilities we deliver to clients. They are professionals who enjoy being partners, asking for help in support of their clients when they need it, and helping their partners when asked. Partners are effective when they have a well-established network of professional service providers: attorneys, accountants, bankers, investment bankers, consulting firms, insurance and real estate brokers, wealth managers and other trusted advisors to senior executives – or have the interest and ability to develop one with our help.
Most importantly, our partners are individuals who take pride in delivering world-class service to their clients – strategic thinkers who roll up their sleeves, and do what it takes to get the job done. Our partners are known for being impactful interim workers who seamlessly integrate with our clients’ management teams, or project leaders who work side-by-side and in support of our clients’ executives. Often we mentor or provide advisory services to executives and key members of their staff. We work hard, but we enjoy the value we create for our clients, the camaraderie of our peers and the recognition of being a partner in a pre-eminent executive and Board services firm.
Extended Team Members
Executives and Board members possessing the type and level of experience noted above but who are interested in serving on a contractor basis as opportunities arise that match their particular expertise and interests should consider NextLevel as a platform to do so. Our business model embraces this as a complement to our partner group in providing our clients with access to exceptional talent that best aligns with their respective needs and objectives. Our extended team members are located across the country and serve in different capacities with clients.
We are looking for those with significant experience at the Vice President, Director and Controller levels whose background includes supporting senior management in many of the areas noted above, and are interested in working with clients on an interim or project support basis, most often as part of a team led by one of our partners.
